Sulphur Mortar

Sulphur Mortar is a thermoplastic, chemically resistant jointing compound based on modified elemental sulphur, applied in a molten state and solidifying on cooling to form an extremely dense, impermeable joint with outstanding resistance to a specific range of aggressive chemicals. It is uniquely effective against hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and most non-oxidizing inorganic acids — delivering joint impermeability levels that no resin-based mortar can match in these specific chemical environments. Imperial World Trade supplies sulphur mortar for chemical plants, fertilizer facilities, and industrial drainage systems where maximum impermeability to inorganic acid attack is the primary design requirement.

  • Outstanding HCl & H₂SO₄ Resistance: Exceptionally low mass loss in hydrochloric and dilute sulfuric acid immersion — superior to most resin-based alternatives in these specific environments.
  • Maximum Impermeability: Thermoplastic solidification produces a near-void-free joint with essentially zero acid absorption.
  • Hot-Pour Application: Applied molten at approximately 130-140°C, flowing completely into the joint before solidifying, eliminating voids.
  • High Compressive Strength: Solidified sulphur joint withstands significant mechanical load from overlying brick lining and process equipment.
  • Temperature Limitation: Service temperature limited to approximately 80°C continuous; not suitable for steam or elevated thermal environments.
  • Oxidizing Acid Limitation: Not recommended for nitric acid, chromic acid, or any strongly oxidizing chemical environment.

Sulphur Mortar occupies a unique chemical resistance niche that no other mortar system fully replicates. Imperial World Trade ensures correct grade selection and provides full application guidance, including heating equipment recommendations, to guarantee void-free joints throughout your lining installation.
