Tundish Boards
Think of a Tundish Board as a protective, heat-proof lining for the “middle tank” (the Tundish) that holds molten steel before it is poured into molds. Since molten steel is incredibly hot and chemically active, it would quickly eat away at the permanent walls of the tank. Our boards act as a sacrificial shield, taking the heat so your equipment doesn’t have to.
We offer two main types: Silica-based and Magnesia-based. The Magnesia boards are like a magnet for impurities; they help clean the steel by soaking up unwanted chemicals like phosphorus. This ensures the steel that comes out is as pure as possible. These boards also act like a thermos, keeping the metal at the exact right temperature so it doesn’t freeze too early.
One of the best features of Imperial World’s Tundish Boards is how they handle the “cleanup.” Once the job is done and the steel has been poured, the leftover metal (called “skull”) peels away from our boards easily. This means your team spends less time scrubbing out the tank and more time melting steel. It’s a simple, cost-effective way to keep your production moving and your steel clean.
